New York Times: HEALTH|Paxlovid Cuts Covid Death Risk. But Those Who Need It Are Not Taking It.
As Covid rises again, killing about 1,500 Americans each week, medical researchers are trying to understand why so few people are taking Paxlovid, a medicine that is stunningly effective in preventing severe illness and death from the disease.
Reflections of my years on ALCA New England Board of Directors
I have been an Aging Life Care Professional for close to 17 years. Over many years, my peer supervision group supported me and helped me have the courage to move forward to strike out on my own to serve my clients in the way that I felt they needed. Six and a half years ago I launched my own practice.

Just 2 Minutes of Walking After a Meal Is Surprisingly Good for You
Walking after a meal, conventional wisdom says, helps clear your mind and aids in digestion. Scientists have also found that going for a 15-minute walk after a meal can reduce blood sugar levels, which can help ward off complications such as Type 2 diabetes. But, as it turns out, even just a few minutes of walking can activate these benefits.
Mother’s Day Reflections
Mother’s Day is a day of joy but also a day of reflection. There is great joy in spending time with your children and reflection about Mother’s days with those who have passed. I have been very fortunate to follow a line of nurturing loving women. I understand now more than ever, that in our imperfection as mothers the love we seed in our families from the first moment we become mothers helps us through the difficult times and brings us back to where we started, unconditional love.
Untold Tragedy’s of COVID-19: Care Managers are advocates
The untold tragedy of the COVID-19 pandemic is the decline and suffering of our most vulnerable older adults living in long term care facilities who have not historically risen to a high standard of care. Fortunately, as an Aging LIfe Care Professional we are able to advocate for our clients to place them in facilities that are providing excellent care. I am grateful for those partnerships and applaud their hard work in meeting the challenges that this moment in history forces them to face.
Veteran’s Day: My father’s story
My father was a joyful, kind and energetic man who loved his family, friends and his career as an optometrist in downtown Boston. His success as a solo-practitioner was due to 2 factors: First, he was excellent at his craft delivering flawless service and product, and second, he truly loved people. He was genuinely interested in his patients’ lives. His patients looked forward to seeing him and he them…
Longstanding partnerships with service providers helped me care for my client during covid-19
I met Mary two years ago. She was a vibrant active 73-year-old widow with a close circle of long-time friends whom she saw often. She would go to the Senior Center for exercise class, attend theatre and opera, and go out for lunch and of course, a walk to the neighborhood ice cream parlor daily. Her primary family support, her younger son David lived in New York City…
Porch Visits: Reducing Isolation
In my Care Management practice over the years, every relationship with a client starts with a face to face meeting. This connection and daily routine is as important to my clients’ well-being and stability as any medication that a physician prescribes. With the world pandemic of Covid-19, I’ve had to adapt my practice to keep everyone safe, while not losing that personal connection.
May is Aging Life Care Professional’s Month
As professional Care Managers (Aging Life Care Professionals), when we take on clients, we are 100% committed to them, their wellness, helping them to reach their goals, and being there for them and their families through all their difficult times. And then in comes COVID-19 making everything that much harder. I learn of my client’s fever. They are in a nursing home, and the nursing home is on lockdown. I cannot be there to orchestrate care and comfort, and suddenly they are gone.
