I have been an Aging Life Care Professional for close to 17 years. Over many years, my peer supervision group supported me and helped me have the courage to move forward to strike out on my own to serve my clients in the way that I felt they needed. Six and a half years ago I launched my own practice.
Our newsletter is back! and we wanted to share with you a quick rundown of what we dived into last month. Many of you know that I will be away (out of the country) for two weeks. My last day in the office is October 28 and I will be returning to work on November 14. Invoices will be sent out on 10/27/22 of this month due to my absence. The last days of October will be part of November invoices. Thanks for your understanding with this.
Walking after a meal, conventional wisdom says, helps clear your mind and aids in digestion. Scientists have also found that going for a 15-minute walk after a meal can reduce blood sugar levels, which can help ward off complications such as Type 2 diabetes. But, as it turns out, even just a few minutes of walking can activate these benefits.
Mother’s Day is a day of joy but also a day of reflection. There is great joy in spending time with your children and reflection about Mother’s days with those who have passed. I have been very fortunate to follow a line of nurturing loving women. I understand now more than ever, that in our imperfection as mothers the love we seed in our families from the first moment we become mothers helps us through the difficult times and brings us back to where we started, unconditional love.
The untold tragedy of the COVID-19 pandemic is the decline and suffering of our most vulnerable older adults living in long term care facilities who have not historically risen to a high standard of care. Fortunately, as an Aging LIfe Care Professional we are able to advocate for our clients to place them in facilities that are providing excellent care. I am grateful for those partnerships and applaud their hard work in meeting the challenges that this moment in history forces them to face.

In my Care Management practice over the years, every relationship with a client starts with a face to face meeting. This connection and daily routine is as important to my clients’ well-being and stability as any medication that a physician prescribes. With the world pandemic of Covid-19, I’ve had to adapt my practice to keep everyone safe, while not losing that personal connection.
As professional Care Managers (Aging Life Care Professionals), when we take on clients, we are 100% committed to them, their wellness, helping them to reach their goals, and being there for them and their families through all their difficult times. And then in comes COVID-19 making everything that much harder. I learn of my client’s fever. They are in a nursing home, and the nursing home is on lockdown. I cannot be there to orchestrate care and comfort, and suddenly they are gone.
Now, in comes a global pandemic and a “Stay at Home Order”. Not only have your activities gone out the window, but you fear your spouse will decline. You worry about your loved one’s health and what will happen if you become ill? Who will take care of your spouse?
In our effort to ensure that you and your loved ones are fully prepared for any illness, it is critically important that you have on hand now - not in your lawyers office or buried in a file cabinet - all appropriate advanced directives. I know this is a sobering process but let's make sure you have everything you need available to you, if needed.
